Hi Catharina
I was wondering if you tell us how we can post in a different language here ? I have figured out how to type in Hindi in an application called Baraha on my computer.
But when I try to copy that here its all weird characters , obviously. Maybe you could tell us how to do that ? I use a font called BRH Devanagari
Thanks
Ankur
with Bahara can you re-determine the placing of the characters do you think? Where did you get Bahara from?
thanks
Joanna
आप बहुत उपकारक हैं।
well uh ... got it from (from http://www.baraha.com/baraha.htm) .. thats the link that Ellen gave me. I found it amazingly simple. In fact I was typing out long complex sentences within the first few minutes. I need to refer to the Help once in a while but its still really usable.
Can you tell me how you typed that line in Hindi ? how ? how ?? I get funny characters when i try to copy paste...
Hi ! just type it on baraha pad. save it. and copy /paste as required...
should work !
I'm game! I know some Hindi but I've forgotten most of what I used to know so I'm going back to the very beginning....
Main and ap and ki I remember (amazing!). Hindi is self evident. Would you put translations next to the other words in the sentence for me?
Ellen
And if you can figure out how to put them into the devanagari script next to them -- the way Smita Ray did in her cat and dog lesson -- that would be great!
I've downloaded Baraha (from http://www.baraha.com/baraha.htm) for my computer and it works pretty well for the simply Hindi words that I know.
Hi Ellen
Sure .. here goes (translation in bold)
Main i aap you sabko all Hindi Hindi :) seekhnein learning mein in madad assist/help karne do ki of koshish try/attempt karoonga will do
Ok as you might have noticed , Karne and Karoonga are like the same word... Karoonga means will do ( sometime in the future ) and Karne is usually used before another word but means "to do"
Like Vote (english vote) Karne Ko jaa raha hoon
or Vote Karne Ki zaroorat(need/necessity) hai
vote Karne Ke liye quatar ( ka-taar) line mein khade stand ho jaao
Im not sure how I can help but I can probably solve little doubts for you guys.. the course should take care of the rest.
I will see if I can also type in Hindi .. I access this at work so dont usually have a lot of time but I will when I can (plus my spellings real bad ! )
Take Care
Ankur

Please help me too!
I believe the Long U and Short U vowel marks from
www.open-of-course.org/courses/mod/resource/view.php?id=274
have been switched from what I have learned about the Devanagari script.
Please let me know which is correct. Thank you
Respectfully,
Edith I. Huang
Yes Edith ,
You're right. Not all , but some of them are incorrect.
'Tu' (you), for example , should be with a long U not short U.
But Guru is spelt correctly. With a Short U under 'Ga' and a Long U after 'Ra'
